Weir Street
Sheffield · Mixed use · 2024– · On site

A shifted stack over a courtyard block, holding a public route through the middle of the site rather than around it.
The site had a right of way running diagonally across it that every previous scheme tried to close. We kept it, and built the courtyard block around it, so the shortcut people already used became the front door.
Above, four volumes step off each other to keep the tower off the neighbouring party wall and to give every upper floor a terrace where the shift happens. The cantilever at level six carries the shared floor out over the route.
The frame is in-situ concrete, left as struck. We specified the shuttering board pattern rather than the finish, which is the only way to get an honest answer from a contractor about what it will look like.
