THE MAISON
The maison was founded to make one kind of object well, and has not been talked out of it since.
It began with a commission that could not be filled: a plain band with a single turn in it, which every workshop offered to improve. The maison was set up to make that band, and then the shapes that came after it, without the improving.
Everything is drawn flat before it is anything else. A form that cannot survive being reduced to one continuous line does not get cut in wax, and most of them do not. What is left goes into a drawer and comes back out years later as something else.
The pieces are made here in small runs, sized and finished by the same hands that filed the first one. Nothing is released on a season, and nothing is retired because it is old.
HOW A PIECE IS MADE
Sketch
The shape is drawn flat and full size, over and over, until it survives as one unbroken line.
Wax
That line is carved in wax by hand, so the weight and the balance are settled before any metal exists.
Casting
The wax is lost to the mould and the piece comes back rough, thicker than it will end up.
Finish
It is filed and polished down by hand until the light runs along the form without catching.
Pieces are shown by appointment at the salon, one at a time, on the person wearing them.
